Side of Personage

Wilma & I are doing a little difference type of work-camping. We are in Winters, Texas helping an Assembly of God Church. The church is small & in need of some help. God wants us to put feet to our prayers at times. Our pastor in San Angelo at First Assembly of God Church is taken on the job of making this parsonage something we can be proud of. We felt this was something we could do, we have no skills but we can do something. They have a place we can plug the 5er in, so here we are. We will be posting an update on what we get done. Look at some of the pictures below of part of what needs to be done.

Pile of Trash

Some people from MAPS (an org. with in the Assembly of God Churches) that go around helping small churches. Came to Winters & did the dirty work, they removed this trash from the house, so it could be redone.

Water Heater Closet

The water heater will be centrally located. The washer & dryer are just outside of the kitchen. Notice the new water lines.

Kitchen Sink & New Cabinets

This is where the new sink & new cabinets will be. Look close at the wall it is solid wood. The nice thing about a wall such as this is no matter where you put a nail you will hit wood.

Master Bath

This is where the Master Bath will be. Close your eyes & picture the new shower with new vanity & fresh tile on floor. The new pastor should be very please at all the work that has been done for them. He is coming here to move in on June 1st. If you can be of any help there is plenty of work to be done, just talk to Pastor David Henry at First Assembly of God Church San, Angelo, Texas. If you would rather give money that will work also.

Back of the Solar Panels Frames

We have two sets of solar panels 45 watts in each set making a total of just 90 watts. This is not much solar and would not work for a lot of people, for us it does. We have two AMG batteries & the panels will keep them in good shape, we also have a genset for days with not much sun. The solar panels with the frames cost us less than $350.00. They will pay for themselves many times over this summer as we are work-camping in CO with no elec.
Here are the two frames I made for my two sets of solar panels. Notice the eyes bolts in the rear of each frame. They have a rod in them that allow them to turn in order to follow the sun. The ropes in front make it easier to turned them.
To read more on the Solar Panels go to the earlier post on Nov. 22 2009. Go to the bottom of this page and click on older posts, then do it again on the next page it will get you to a list of older posts. The posts are listed on the left side of the page. To read more on the frames just go on down this page.

Frames Turned to Follow The Sun

This is a picture of how the frames will turn to follow the sun. The fact that there is a rod in the ground coming from the center of the rear brace; makes it easer to turn the frames, I just take the rope & pull them around.

Frames For Solar Panels

This is the frames for my two sets of Solar Panels. Notice in the picture you can see that each frame is a different color. This makes it easy to be sure you are putting together parts that will fit. The two yellow ropes in front of the frames are used to move the panels so as to follow the sun. I used eye bolts to put the frames together. While they are not wing-bolts, they allow you to put them in without tools. The nuts for the bolts are inserted in the wood.

Solar Oven Update & RV Tip

We added a mirror to our Solar Oven, it does a better job of getting solar heat into the oven. The wind was in the range of 20-25 MPH when we cooked a back-strap. The outside temp was 57 when we started and it got to 77 during the day. In the oven we had temps of over 212 degrees. To see how we made the Solar Oven click on Solar Oven from the list of subjects on the right. You may have to go to Older Posts at the bottom of this page.
Tip--you can use Command Hooks both inside and outside of your RV, they come in many sizes and will hold up to 5 lbs in weight with just one hook. Each hook will say on the packages how much weight it will hold. They even have one that is hooks & loops.
