Blowing the Dew off the Roof

Each morning Scott takes a leaf blower & blows the dew off the roof so it will dry quicker. He says it is unusual to have this much dew in Southern California. When he is finished blowing the dew off he goes in & makes breakfast. Scott Christian,s business is RV Roofing Solutions you can reach him at 888-847-7010 on the west coast it is 818-332-1645 he will come to where you are or you can bring it to him if you are in the area.

Making the Gutter Ready

The most important part of any job such as this is the make-ready. We see Scott getting the gutter ready for taping. Every edge & seam will be covered with an acrylic fabric and then a layer of acrylic before the roof receive its first full coat.

Taping Gutter

Now Scott is taping the gutter.

Ready for First Layer

The roof is now ready for the first layer.

Blythe Market

We found this place to shop while in Blythe with my brother & sister-in-law. The Blythe Market caters to the Spanish market, we found we like the store very much, the produce is fresh. While they do not have everything we want they also have some things you cannot get just anyplace. Wilma & I found some seasoned chicken fajitas for $1.29 a pound, (it was a one day special). We will have them tonight.

Styrofoam House Outside

This shows the outside of a Styrofoam House with Steel Studs. While this is not an inexpensive way of building it is very energy efficient. There is very little wast when using Steel Studs. These Styrofoam Blocks as filled with concrete.

Styrofoam House Inside of a Wall

A window will be here.

Styrofoam House French Doors

This is a picture, where French Doors will be installed leading to a Great Room on the ground floor. The inside walls of this house are made of the same Styrofoam...Concrete Construction as the outside.

Styrofoam House Under Floor

This is a shot of the underside of the second floor, look normal to me.

Styrofoam House Corner

This is the corner showing the inside of a Styrofoam block & the size of the concrete pillar. I do not know how deep the pillar is.

Styrofoam House River Front

This will be the front of the house (all houses on a lake or river has the front face the water). This is not your Daddy's House. This house is on the Colorado River in California.

Styrofoam House Material (inside)

Here is a view of the material showing where the concrete is poured. These are the size of concrete building blocks, after all these are building block (just do not weigh near as much and insulate a lot better than concrete blocks). The freight to move these blocks is much cheaper than moving concrete blocks.

Styrofoam House Material

This is the pallet of material viewed from the side. I did lift the corner & it and it was was very light weight. A truck load of this would not be overloaded, but the wind would give it fits.

Cleaning the Roof

Cleaning the roof with soap & water. This was the first step.

Roof Vent Before

This is the roof vent before he did anything to it. Note the black caulk, this had to be check & redone if it showed signs of leaking.

Doing one of the Vents

Here you have the vent over the kitchen where he is putting down strips of matting then covering them with the roofing material. You will never have to caulk again. When he is finished I hope to never be on the roof again.

Old Roof Edge

As you can see in this photo the roof is damaged at the edge & the black spots are where the white outer layer of the roof has oxidized off. This spot is not leaking now, but how long before it will. What we are doing is PM.

On the Road

We are coming into Quartzsite AZ. This picture was taken by my sister-in-law (she has a new camera). She is taken some very good pictures (some of what you find on the blog are by her), you can tell which ones she has taken, they are the good ones. Her new camera is a Kodak.

Cooking over fire

Wilma is watching the fire & the pot. We use the tripod & cast iron dutch oven to do a lot of our cooking. We cook over the fire (my brother is very good as it), we also have used my solar oven for two meals. HEY IT WORKED (it was better the second time we used it). Now we do fix some meals in the trailer & motor home. We also have two propane grills outside under a shelter we used. We do a lot of cooking because we like to eat.

Filling up with water

My brother & I are adding water to our fresh water tank. I am the good looking one. My brother has a small 12 vote pump we used to pump the water from jugs to the trailer, makes the job much faster & EASER. Dumping the black & gray tanks are done with a "blue boy" (a tank on wheels that you pull behind your truck). Never having to brake camp is very nice.

Vew from Camp

This is the view from camp taken early in the morning. Makes getting up and walking Tank much easier in the AM. Last week we had water running in this area. We are camped next to a Blue Bird Camp (RV) as they leave they play music on their horns, I like the sound.

Quartzsite

You are looking at Quartzsite from I10, what you see are just a few of the RVs that are here. This town is very small, till winter then the snowbirds fly in.

Getting ready for the rain

We are getting ready for the rain & it did rain. The Cover you see in the center of the picture has been lowered about two foot. Everything did fine except three of my solar panels blew over & one of them was under water. I clean then up then set them back up (with more support) & they worked just fine. As I write this I am eating a piece of fresh pecan pie. Wilma baked a lemon & a pecan pie this afternoon. Hey life out here is tough.

Tank

The large circles are not snow they are rain drops. Tank needed to go for a walk & I took my camera and took this picture of him the rain drops & the running water. This is at camp

Water

This is very close to our camp, yesterday there was no water running. When we walked on the ground there is no mud to track in the 5er, that is very nice. Last nite we pulled the slide in because there was wind around 60MPH and we also got 4 inches of rain, (a years rainfall). Wilma & I went into town to shop for a few things and found not everyone was open for business. A lot of the booths got their things wet, and were drying out.

Two Cacti

Here we have some of the largest trees in the area & two cacti. See the water running it was gone in a short amount of time. The desert will turn green very soon. We saw some vegetation turning green as we were going into town today.

Big Tent

Do you see all the flags; they are on the big tent. I want you to know while I type this it is raining here, and if you have check the weather they are saying CA may get up to 20 inches. We are just 20 miles from CA on I10.

BLM Quartzsite AZ

This is just one of the areas where hundreds or thousands of RVers are staying.

Food & More Food

These are some of the many food vendors.

Cooks

These are two of the nice ladies who fixed pancakes for the people who came to church Sunday. The pancakes were good and there was syrup aplenty and the best blueberries to go with the pancakes.

Church

Just before church; as you can see we are talking and eating. The man in the cowboy hat on the left is the pastor, he brought a good message from Genesis on the creation of life as opposed to life coming from a blob.

Rocks

We stopped at a nice rest area & I liked these rocks. We came up on a rest area that was closed. I had read where some of the states are closing some of their rest areas. I know they are having a hard time with money. Like the rest of us they do not have any. Thank about it people who travel, get tired & need a place to rest for a few minutes; how about people who drive for a living. Maybe there is some other way. I do not know, but I do know this is not good.

Golf

They do not have an 18 hole golf course; but they have a driving range; well maybe it is a chipping range. But they have not left the golfer out, even have clubs in case you did not bring yours.

My Lady

This is a picture of Wilma & her trusted dog, (Tank). These two are standing in front of the clubhouse. We have found everything to be very clean, & the sweetest people you could ask for. Where are we you ask; check the next picture.

RoVers Roost

This is a very nice RV Park. I have read about it from time to time; but this is our first time to come here. There is no cost to dry camp. Today you get very little for nothing. Here you get a lot. Of course we are members of SKP's; we have been for a good while like 10 years.

Our first stop

On our way to Quartzsite AZ we met my brother & his wife, we will be traveling together the rest of the way. We left San Angelo at around 12:30 on Monday and we were here by 4:00pm; it was only 214 miles. This is a recently acquired RV Park. It is in the process of being remodeled.
Do you know what Pecos is famous for? Check the next post.

Home of the first Rodeo

I had no idea where the first rodeo was held; did you know? It was in our first stop. Pecos.
